Art Advisory
Bernhard Boehler & Associates provide art advisory services to both institutional and private collectors of museum quality art around the globe. We can also give assistance in managing existing holdings and developing new collections. Furthermore, we conduct due diligence in the evaluation of art with independent expertise. Authentication and Attribution
Attribution and authenticity are the keys to understanding and attesting value. While art-historical attribution is the process of identifying the artist who made a work of art, the practice of authentication aims to determine whether it is or is not by a particular artist. Ideally, this is achieved by combining scientific material analysis with experts’ aesthetic assessments. For an attributed work of art to be widely accepted as genuine, authenticity has to be proven with strong evidence and facts. The three necessary aspects for authentication and attribution—art-historical documentation including provenance, stylistic connoisseurship, and technical or scientific analysis—complement each other, creating a consensus of evidence. Authentication and attribution procedures are finally sanctioned through a recognized expert for a certain artist or epoch. This is achieved with an authentication certificate issued by a scholar or an academic institution recognized by the art market as an authority on the relevant field.
Art Appraisal
Bernhard Boehler & Associates collaborate with private collectors, family offices, lawyers, underwriters, brokers and fiduciaries to deliver appraisals for tangible personal property, ranging from valuing a single work of art to assessing comprehensive art collections.
Detailed appraisal reports serve as valuable resources for customers. Our fully illustrated valuation reports comprise cataloguing details, notes on provenance and condition, current location and the appropriate value for each item listed. Dr. Bernhard A. Boehler is a certified appraiser and an active member of International Fine Art Appraisers (IFAA), a New York City-based organization. Their active members are available for appraisal services bearing in mind that authentication and attribution procedures are finally only sanctioned through the recognized authority for the artist or epoch in question. Appraisals are not authentications and typically follow the latter.
